Mrs. Cinnamon Buns’ sister and her husband were in Europe working. So we did what we do: we took a trip! We left for Warsaw, Poland, late on a Friday night and returned Monday morning. Impressively, the Cinnamon Sticks went straight to school when we arrived Monday morning. Such is their love for their Aunt and Uncle! Here is our youngest, prepped for travel:
On our first morning there, we were flying solo. The Sticks’ aunt and uncle didn’t arrive until the afternoon, so we randomly decided to walk around a nearby park. We stumbled upon a great university library, with spectacular gardens outside:
Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let us in without a library card, and they wouldn’t accept a Swedish one…
Since I was traveling with three women, next we shopped. We stumbled on the spectacular mall Elektrownia Powiśle. They were having a special crafty sale:
Soon enough, the relatives arrived, and we were off on our first event—a food tour of Warsaw! Here we are, hungry and ready to go:
Our first stop was a traditional Polish pierogi restaurant:
I learned that pierogis are actually descended from Asian dumplings. Who knew? I thought they were from Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Cinnamon Bun with her brother-in-law.
Me learning about Borscht (again):
We also enjoyed steak tartar, vodka and craft beers. I must say that the tour ended strong with Polish donuts and pizza
The next day, we took a wonderful driving tour of Warsaw. The people we met were warm and friendly. Poland is definitely a welcoming country.
We ended the tour in the Old Town section of Warsaw, which was conveniently located next to our home base, Hotel Bristol.
It was a fast trip, but it was lovely to see Warsaw and visit with family!
To be continued…
