We just got back from our ski trip to Romme Alpin. This is a ski area to the north of Stockholm. We took the convenient ski bus from Stockholm Cityterminalen. It is super easy and just a short subway ride from our home. Mrs. Cinnamon Buns said a family ski trip is 51% pain and 49% joy. I might quibble about the percentages, but I think that is the most spot-on description.
For something new and different, I wanted to leave it to our oldest Cinnamon Stick to write about our recent trip. With no further ado, take it away!
Our trip started with a long bus ride to Romme Alpin. On the way there, it wasn’t very snowy. The weather was not supposed to be good, so we were worried. Here we are on our way!
Sometimes, I get car sick, so our friendly bus driver let me sit in front. The ride was very pretty once we got out of the city. And the mountains had lots of snow and trees. It was cold, but it was very sunny.
After our long 2.5-hour bus ride, we made it to the lodge. The lodge is very pretty and has a cozy vibe. We could not check into our room yet because it was too early. So we sat down and had a little late breakfast. After that, we decided to get our skis and hit the slopes. Here we are on our first ride up!
The slopes were beautiful! We took a green run back to the bottom of the hill. And took the lift back up again. Here was the beautiful forest we skied past:
After we finished, it was about noon, and we took the ski lift to the top to see if there were any lunch places. We were in luck because there was a really good restaurant called the Våffelstugan (aka Waffle House).
On Monday, we started ski school. I’m not very fond of ski school. I was nervous because I didn’t know if anyone else would speak English. It was OK. The teachers were very good and nice. We did some hard things, and the teachers weren’t very helpful with that. It ended well. We went down a big green slope. We went to the bottom of the hill near our hotel and met our parents every day.
At the end of the week, we did a little show of what we had learned. And were awarded medals. And I was the best in the class! (Just kidding).
We got to spend a lot of time skiing as a family since ski school only lasted 1.5 hours each day.
Growing up in America and going on ski trips, all you can get is $25 hot dogs. But in Sweden, the food is much better and helps you have the energy to ski. At our hotel, the dinner buffets were themed around a country. The first night was Mexican (yum); the others included Italian, American, and Swedish. On our last night, Swedish Night, they had apple pie for dessert, which is weird because the saying is, “It’s as American as baseball and apple pie!
Here we are drinking our favorite drink known as the “Blå Romme”!
Our favorite restaurant ended up being the Toppstugan. It is the most scenic and famous restaurant on the mountain. They are known for their Toppstugan burger and their pasta bolognese. Here we are, waiting for our food.
They have tasty desserts, too!
All in all, it was a very good and interesting trip. We can’t wait for next year’s Sportlöv!
To be continued…
