A Weekend in the Country

Or... en helg i landet

It’s been a while since we posted. We’ve had a tough spell. Moving overseas isn’t always unicorns and rainbows. Sometimes its apartment issues, sick kids or simple stuff that just doesn’t work.

But… Mrs. Cinnamon Bun is on now on vacation - which is lovely - she is enjoying a two week vacation at her new company. It has been a while since she had a multi-week vacation, and we plan on taking advantage of it. We took our first mini-break from Stockholm to Siggesta Gård on Värmdö island. This was well-researched by Mrs. CB and also recommended by her co-workers as a great spot for families.

“Siggesta” is the town name and “Gård” in this case means “farm”. Getting there was super easy, we took the tunnelbana to Slussen, and then it was a 35 minute bus trip outside of Stockholm into the archipelago. The bus stop right in front of the farm is simply adorable:

The Hotel is in an idyllic country setting. The grounds are reminiscent of a working farm. In fact, they grow many of the ingredients for their food. Here’s some pictures to give you a sense of the place:

And of course they had chickens! Which were a highlight for the girls. The Cinnamon Sticks named their 3 favorite chickens and had endless fun checking in on them.

They had some great family friendly activities, like mini “Adventure Golf” and “Football Golf”. Thanks to EuroCup 2021, the girls now know American Soccer is really called football.

It is just so sunny in Sweden that Mrs. CB needed a new hat. I think vacation agrees with her.

While we were staying there we got to go to a “Nature Beach” where we enjoyed some stand up paddle boarding and swimming:

The restaurant was fantastic. We enjoyed several traditional Swedish specialties such as deer sausage, salmon, breaded witch (a fish), and chilled tomato soup:

While we hiked through the woods to the nature beach, we stumbled upon many wild raspberry bushes that the girls loved! The Cinnamon Sticks agree that wild raspberries that you eat while walking are so much sweeter. We can’t wait until wild blueberries (blåbär) are in season soon.
